How Much Should You Lean on AI for Sports Betting Tips?

Artificial intelligence is all the rage right now, and it is seemingly – for good or ill – permeating every aspect of our lives.

Sometimes that can be seen as quite useful, such as using AI to research a product for unbiased reviews, whereas other times, it is downright infuriating, which you’ll know all about if you’ve been trying to speak to a human customer service provider and constantly get stuck in a loop with an AI one.

To what degree has AI infiltrated sports betting and predictions? At the moment, it’s somewhat niche, though it is getting more traction.

That said, there are some issues to be aware of, not least that how AI works can be misunderstood by a lot of people.

AI is no oracle

Indeed, to start, you need to be in the frame of mind that AI is not some kind of prophet that sees beyond human understanding.

We have seen lots of posts like the one below, suggesting that AI can predict future World Cup winners.

Such long-term predictions are nonsense and would equate to AI’s ability to give you the right numbers when you go to buy lottery tickets. It’s just pure idle conjecture.

On the other hand, AI is superior to humans at analyzing large data sets.

For example, if you wanted an analysis of a team’s corner data for the Premier League or a horse trainer’s record on heavy ground over a ten-year period, then AI can be useful as a tool to interpret that.

The problem, however, lies in getting the right data and giving it to AI. If you think you can just ask ChatGPT to provide you with a comparison on every Aidan O’Brien horse before Royal Ascot, then think again.

It is limited in what data it has access to on the live web, so you would have to go and get that data yourself if you want high-end analysis.

Giving AI good data is essential

Still, there is nothing to say that you can’t do that, even if you might have to pay a subscription to access detailed datasets.

The next part of the process would be for the AI to start comparing the data to the live odds, pinpointing where the market is wrong.

Again, it’s not going to be able to predict a horse race with absolute clarity, but it can tell you if the odds of 2/1 for X horse are mispriced or not.

We would, indeed, say to be wary of tipsters that claim AI is giving them guaranteed profits.

This idea has been around long before AI, and it is one of the reasons that platforms like Honest Betting Reviews approach tipsters and systems in an unbiased manner, but the bottom line is this:

If AI was providing some miracle formula so that you always won, you wouldn’t be hawking the system to other punters on Facebook.

Now, once again, that’s not to say that betting systems should not use AI – in fact, they probably should – but punters must simply appreciate that sports betting always carries inherent risk, so be wary when riches are promised. But under the right circumstances, AI can be your data-analyzing friend, helping you find value and, hopefully, a winning selection.
