Town Star Guide – How to Get Going and Start Earning

If you’ve been a long-term follower of ours here at Honest Betting Reviews you will know we occasionally like to venture into territory beyond betting and look at other opportunities like crypto, forex and the like.

We recently took a look at fantasy football game Sorare for example and have been doing very well playing that and earning rewards.

Well today we are going to take a look at another “play to earn” opportunity and this one is called Town Star from a company called Gala Games.

The game is a little like Farmville, which was a very popular simulation game where you built your own farm and sold crops and produce. At its peak it had over 80 million active monthly users.

Town Star actually comes from the same people who designed Farmville, so they clearly know what they are doing.

And the great thing about Town Star is you can actually earn income (in the form Town Coin which you can then convert to fiat currency) by playing it.

Some people are already earning over $100 per day playing it and the game is still in its very early stages.

So it looks like an exciting opportunity and one we’ll do a deep dive into below in terms of what it’s all about, how you can earn income from it and the long-term potential of Town Star.

As with anything else in this sector though, we would issue the usual disclaimer to only put in an amount you can afford to lose in a platform like this because it is risky and lots of things could happen to affect the returns or the game itself.

The Play-to-Earn Gaming Revolution

The play-to-earn gaming revolution has taken the world by storm and is shaking up the traditional video game industry.

Games like Axie Infinity have over 2m users and the Axie token has grown from less than a dollar to over $140 at the time of writing with an $8.6bn market cap.

Most of these play-to-earn games work on the basis that they have their own in-game currency, much like games have done for many years.

However, rather than that currency being worthless outside the game as is the case with traditional games, with these new play-to-earn games the companies making them issue a cryptocurrency that is listed on exchanges like Coinbase and Binance.

As you win this currency in the game for completing tasks or winning tournaments, you can then sell the currency on exchanges and convert it to fiat currency – pounds, dollars and Euros etc.

The play-to-earn revolution is still in its infancy but there are already people making a full-time living from it. Some people have even set up specialist groups – called “guilds” where they pool resources, knowledge and game-time to compete as a team and improve their returns.

Others who don’t have time to spend hours playing video games but do have the resources to buy the crucial in-game assets actually recruit people to play the game for them and then share rewards – apparently popular with Axie Infinity in particular.

It’s very much an evolving space and a “brave new world” so to speak, but no doubt is exciting from the point of view of being able to generate some extra revenue on the side by playing games.

Town Star is at the forefront of this play-to-earn revolution and is still in its early stages so the potential is there to see a lot of growth over the coming months and years.

What is Town Star?

Town Star is a play-to-earn farming game that was launched by Gala Games earlier this year.

It runs on the blockchain and has its own cryptocurrency which you can earn, called Town Star (often referred to as “Town Coin”).

The game looks like this:

If you’re familiar with Farmville you’ll probably recognise lots of the features like the crops, animals, farm houses and so on.

Town Star is actually a really fun game to play, as well as being quite addictive! The 80m users Farmville had at its peak testify to how appealing these types of games can be. They are pretty simple at their core, but building up your farm (or town) from nothing to producing lots of goods is quite satisfying.

In essence the key is to build a sustainable town that produces its own power and gasoline and sells its goods to nearby cities. These sales help to pay your workers and build new infrastructure for your town.

Once you are set up and running there are guides on Town Star to help explain how everything works in more detail.

How do you Earn on Town Star?

As described above, most play-to-earn games issue their own cryptocurrency. The makers of Town Star, Gala Games, have issued the Town Star Coin (TOWN) to reward players for completing a daily challenge or finishing in a high position on the leaderboard.

Finishing high up enough on the leaderboard to win a prize is very tough however so the main way of earning Town Coin is to complete the daily challenge.

In order to earn Town Coin from completing the daily challenge, you will need to own at least one NFT.

An NFT is an in-game item and in the case of Town Star it means the farming and industrial items you use in your town – like wheat storage, solar panels or a water fountain.

Once you have bought your NFT, you just need to place it in your town, complete the daily challenge and then you earn a specific amount of Town Coin based on the particular NFT you own.

For example, if you own the Rare Sugarcane Storage, you will earn 14 Town Coin if you complete the daily challenge.

At the time of writing, one Town Coin is worth around $0.80.

So that’s $11.20 earned per day just for completing a few simple tasks that can take as little as a few minutes, once you have built up your town.

Now some people have very powerful NFTs that are earning them over 100 Town Coin per day, which is quite a nice little bit of extra income!

It’s important to note that in order to place more than one NFT in your town, you will need to have a certain amount of “Power” in your account. This means you need to hold either Gala Coin or Town Coin in your wallet. How Power is calculated is explained further below (see towards the bottom “A word on power levels in Town Coin”).

In any event, you can see that the potential to earn on Town Star is substantial. And if the game grows and the value of Town Coin grows too, those earnings could increase quite significantly (not a prediction, but just pointing out the potential!).

Plus you could compound your returns to buy more NFTs and earn more Town Coin. The possibilities are endless!

You can open an account on Gala Games here and start playing Town Star for FREE.

How do you get set up on Town Star and start Earning?

Okay so that’s the basics of how you can earn Town Coin in the game. How do you actually go about doing so though?

Well below we’ll take you through exactly how to get set up from scratch and starting earning Town Coin in a step-by-step guide.

It can essentially be broken down into six steps:

  1. Open a Gala Games account for free
  2. Buy some relevant tokens on an exchange and then transfer them into your Gala Wallet
  3. Buy Town Star NFTs (non-fungible tokens)
  4. Place them in your Town
  5. Complete the daily challenge to earn Town Coin
  6. Convert that Town Coin into fiat currency via an exchange (e.g. Coinbase or Crypto.com)

It’s pretty simple when summarised like that, but at the outset it can seem quite daunting and complicated if you’re not familiar with cryptocurrency and play-to-earn games, so let’s go through all that in a bit more detail.

Step One – Open a Gala Games Account

The first thing you’ll need to do to get going is open an account at Gala Games. It’s completely free and shouldn’t take long to do. You can open an account here.

Once you’ve opened your account, it’s important to note down your Private Key and Transfer Code as you’ll need them later (it’s worth actually writing these down and storing them somewhere safe, as there’s not much you can do if you lose them.) It’s also worth enabling two-factor authentication to protect your account.

Once in your account, you can click on the “games” tab at the top and it will take you to a list of the current games that Gala have in their portfolio. There you will see Town Star.

You can have a little play on Town Star there if you would like to check the game out and get a feel for it. There’s a free-to-play version just for that purpose.

Step Two – Buy some cryptocurrency and transfer it to your Gala Wallet

In order to buy an NFT on Town Star – which you will need to earn Town Coin – it is necessary to have some relevant cryptocurrency in your Gala wallet.

The three main currencies items are sold in are:

  • Town Star (TOWN)
  • Gala (GALA)
  • Ethereum (ETH)

So you will need to buy at least one of these tokens. Most of the NFTs are sold in either TOWN or GALA, so those are probably the best to have. Although you will also need at least a little bit of Ethereum (say $100 worth) to pay the gas fees when buying an NFT.

GALA token is listed on a number of exchanges, including:

  • Coinbase
  • Crypto.com
  • Binance
  • KuCoin

And TOWN is listed on:

  • OKEx
  • Uniswap

If you don’t have a crypto account yet then don’t worry – here is a simple video showing you how to set one up with Coinbase, the world’s biggest cryptocurrency exchange in terms of users:

Once you have an account set up with an exchange and have bought some tokens, you must then transfer them to your Gala Wallet.

In order to do so, you will need to click on “Inventory” on the top menu on the Gala website.

It will then show you your wallet and the various coins you can hold in there. Click on whichever coin you wish to deposit into your Gala account.

Let’s say we click on the Gala token. It will bring up this screen.

By clicking “Get Gala [ETH]” under the number at the top, it will then bring up your Gala wallet address, in both QR Code and full format.

You then withdraw from your Coinbase wallet (or whichever exchange you have bought your Gala coins in) to this Gala address.

It shouldn’t take too long for the Gala coins to appear, although sometimes transactions can be delayed if there’s a lot of traffic on the network. Please note you will normally also have to pay a fee (usually in Gala coins) to make the withdrawal.

As we say, in addition to Gala Coin (or Town Coin), you will need a bit of Ethereum in your Gala wallet to be able to buy an NFT, so don’t forget about that.

Anyway, once all that is done you will be all set to buy your first Town Star NFT!

Open an account on Gala Games here and start playing Town Star for FREE

Step Three – Buy Your Town Star NFTs

Next up is the key to being able to earn income from Town Star – buying NFTs.

What are NFTs, you may ask?

Well, NFT stands for “Non-Fungible Token,” which have become quite popular recently in the art and sports worlds in particular, with a Beeple NFT selling for $69m back in March and the NBA Top Shot “moment” NFTs trading volume having crossed over $230m.

At their heart NFTs are blockchain assets that can’t be forged, copied or faked and confer genuine ownership which is provable on the blockchain. They also offer a degree of transparency and there are multiple possible uses for them.

In the gaming context however, NFTs are the in-game assets you use like swords, shields and tanks – or in the case of Town Star, farming-related tools and items.

These NFT assets are not only useful in Town Star to help you improve your farm – certain of them pay out a fixed number of Town Coin per day, as long as you complete the Daily Challenge.

At the time of writing, the cheapest usable Town Star NFT is a Grape Storage, which costs 1425 Gala coins (about $670). It pays out 11 Towncoin per day if used in your town and the daily challenge is completed.

So hypothetically if Town Coin stayed at today’s price, it would take approximately 76 days to pay back the cost of it – plus you would then still own the NFT of course.

To view the available NFTs, click on the “Store” tab at the top of the Gala Games website, this will show you all the NFTs that are available to purchase.

Above you can see some of the Town Star NFTs that are available in the store – a Haunted Main Tower, some solar panels, a skin pack and a “Mr Puddles” (who waters your crops).

Below each item is the cost in Town Coin. Please note that the skin packs do NOT pay out any Town Coin in the game. The other items listed above, and those like wheat and sugar storage, water towers, fountains etc do pay out Town Coin (at the time of writing, but that could be subject to change).

It’s also important to note that some items are listed in Town Coin, some in Gala Coin and some in Ethereum. You can check the relative dollar value of these currencies (and therefore the cost of the item you are buying) on a site like Coinmarketcap.com

Some items will be more expensive because of the currency they are listed in, so it is worth checking and ensuring you are getting value for money. On some items they give you a choice of currencies to pay in and on others there is only one currency you can use.

Once you have selected the NFT you wish to buy, you click on “Place Order.”

It will then take you through to the payment page:

Here you will have to select the sending speed, which is how much “gas” is necessary to complete the transaction on the Ethereum blockchain.

We normally select a little less than half way, but it doesn’t seem to matter too much.

The most important part is making sure you have enough Ethereum in your wallet to cover the gas fees and obviously enough of the relevant currency to purchase the item.

If it’s all gone through okay you will get a message saying “processing” and then a few hours later the item will appear in your “inventory” (which you can view by clicking on the tab on the top menu).

Alternatively you can also buy Town Star NFTs on the OpenSea marketplace. Make sure you only buy from the verified collection though (with a blue tick) as those unverified could be fakes.

Step Four – Place the NFT in Your Town

Well done if you’ve made it this far! You will now be locked and loaded to start earning some Town Coin in the game.

All you need to do is place your NFT and you’ll be good to go.

To do so, just click on a square on your Town, click the blue icon in the bottom right corner and it will bring up your available NFTs from your inventory.

Select the one you want to place in your town and it will place the NFT on the square you have selected.

It doesn’t matter exactly where you place your NFT in terms of earning Town Coin, but it makes sense to try and optimise the position in terms of the gameplay.

Step Five – Complete the Daily Challenge

The final step to earning your Town Coin is to complete the daily challenge.

What the daily challenge consists of will be explained to you when you enter the game each day, but at the time of writing it consists of hitting 1,000 stars by selling items from your town, which is pretty straightforward.

The daily challenges may become harder as time goes on, but for now they are very achievable and can be done in just a few minutes per day, once you have built up your town to a reasonable level.

Once you have completed the daily challenge, the icon on the middle right with the timer and blonde lady will go green. Just click on that and then on “claim rewards.”

It’s important to actually click on claim rewards as if you don’t remember to do so, you won’t actually earn the Town Coin!

After doing so though, it will tell you the rewards have been claimed and they will appear in your inventory.

Step Six – Convert Town Coin into Fiat Currency on an Exchange

Finally, it’s time to cash in! You have earned your Town Coin and decide you want to convert it into real money.

Just go to your Gala account, click on Town Coin, click “convert” and then you will be able to send it from your wallet to your exchange account.

On the exchange you can then sell the tokens, thus converting them to fiat currency.

Job done!

This can all sound very complicated to those new to the platform and unfamiliar with cryptocurrency, so our advice would be to take one step at a time and not try to do everything at once.

A Word on Power Levels on Gala Games

As mentioned above, in order to place more than one NFT in your town, you will need to have a certain amount of “Gala Power” in your account. This means you need to hold either Gala Coin or Town Coin in your wallet.

How Power is calculated is as follows:

Gala Power Equation:

Gala Power = Gala Coin + (Town Coin*2)

Gala Power Scale (Subject to change)

Levels 1–20: Every 5K ⚡Gala Power⚡ held increases your level by one
Levels 21–35: Every 10K ⚡Gala Power⚡ held increases your level by one
Levels 36–45: Every 25K ⚡Gala Power⚡ held increases your level by one
Levels 46–55: Every 50K ⚡Gala Power⚡ held increases your level by one

…and so on.

What this means in practice is that you just need one Gala token in your Gala wallet to be able to place one NFT in your town.

But to place a second NFT in your town, will need 5,000 Power to move up a level. And to place a third NFT, you will need another 5,000 Power, and so on.

So you need either 5,000 Gala tokens, or a combination of GALA and TOWN that add up to 5,000 points to move up a level.

That could be 1,000 TOWN and 3,000 GALA for example (3000 GALA plus 1,000 TOWN x 2 = 5,000 power points).

With the big increase in the price of Gala recently it has become very expensive to move up the levels, so hopefully Gala will address this soon and make it more affordable. For the time being though this is what we have to work with.

Conclusion – Town Coin Play-to-Earn

The play-to-earn gaming revolution is taking the world by storm but it still very much in its early phases. Most gamers haven’t cottoned on to it yet, but will surely do so when they realise you can earn revenue from playing video games.

One of the first play-to-earn games is Town Star, which is a lot like the very popular game Farmville and actually comes from some of the same people.

You can earn income from Town Star by owning NFTs and completing daily challenges. It’s a fun game to play as well.

As with anything else in this sector though, we would issue the usual disclaimer to only put in an amount you can afford to lose in a platform like this because it is risky and lots of things could happen to affect the returns or the game itself.

As long as you stick to that though, we hope you enjoy playing Town Star and happy gaming!

There is also a regular £10 to £1,000 Challenge, which as you may have guessed, is a daily bet that attempts to turn a £10 starting bank into £1,000. A we understand it, this has been successful on a number of occasions. In fact, one of them succeeded during our trial of Freesupertips.

If you are going to follow Freesupertips then it is worth deciding which of the various different types you want to follow, which could of course be all of them!

     5. Racing Post

The Racing Post has been a staple of the tipping world for decades. Although better known for their racing tips and the likes of Pricewise, they also have a dedicated football section providing free football tips.

Now technically of course if you buy a paper copy of the Racing Post then his tips are not quite free, although you can also find the tips on the online football tips page of their website.

For many years the Racing Post footy team was headed by Kevin Pullein, a renowned figure in the tipping world. Pullein is an ardent follower of statistics and in his regular series of betting articles in the Guardian (which sadly no longer run), he would use stats to disprove some long-held fallacies that have grown into urban myths over the years.

A number of these theories and others were developed into greater depth in Pullein’s 2009 book “The Definitive Guide to Betting on Football,” also published by the Racing Post.

Nowadays Mr Pullein seems to have taken more of a backseat role and Mark Langdon has taken over providing the tips, assisted by Dan Childs. They do so in singles and accas for the week’s big games – primarily in the Premier League.

They cover a variety of markets including match odds, both teams to score, Asian handicap and more. A large majority of the week’s Premier League fixtures are covered meaning lots of potential action if you choose to follow all the tips. There is also a regular podcast – Mark Langdon’s Bets Club – if you want to get even more in-depth analysis of the tips.

With such a broad offering to get stuck into, the Racing Post’s football tips are well worth considering if you are looking for some free soccer tips.

     6. Sporting Life

Sporting Life

Alongside the Racing Post, the other of the UK’s longest running and best known tipping resources is of course the Sporting Life. Much like the Racing Post they are generally better known for their horse racing tips, but they also supply footy tips as part of their online service.

The tipping section of the website used to be known as the Betting Zone but has recently reverted to being known as just the Sporting Life. The tips are provided in a team of experts including Tom Carnduff, , and others. They tips were previously supplied by Ben Linfoot who now concentrates on horse racing.

The football tips are available for free via the Sporting Life website and come in the form of both regular tips for matches in the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, internationals and more.

One of their more notable tips was Athletico Madrid each way to win the 2014 Champions League at 40/1, which came so close to winning until a last minute equaliser from Sergio Ramos. Still, the place part of the bet came in at a nice price.

With a whole team of experts now they have taken the Sporting Life’s football tipping on to new heights and is a strong service to consider for your free soccer tips.

    7. Predictology

One of the more innovative free football tipping sites is Predictology, which is a database of resources and statistics for football betting, allowing you to quickly and easily build your own profitable football betting systems or use those developed by the team.

Although the main service with Predictology is a paid service, you can sign up to receive free tips as well.

We ran our own review of the main Predictology selections and they made an impressive 38 points profit, which came at a strike rate of 52%, meaning over half the bets were winners.

So if you’re looking for something a bit different in your football tips and powered by a huge database as well as AI technology, Predictology should be right up your street.

They provide tips mainly in the English Premier League (EPL), with some tips in the Champions League, Europa League and international matches.

Their primary speciality and where a good deal of their profits have come from is in ante-post bets. These include excellent winners such as Harry Kane to be top Premier League goalscorer at 20/1, Bournemouth to finish in the top half of the Premier League at 9/1, Brighton to win the Championship (each-way) and many more.

The overall record of Betting Bias is exceptional, with over 1500 points profit made since they began in 2011, at a return on investment of over 16%.

And the really nice thing is that you don’t even need to sign-up to receive the tips, you just visit the website and check the tips each day.

     9. Goal King

The Goal King is a service that has amassed over 250 points profit since starting in May 2020. The tips come in the major European leagues, mainly in the English Premier League with some bets from the Championship too.

As the name suggests, the Goal King is primarily focused on the goals markets – the over/under markets and both teams to score. They have studied goals markets for many years to develop a tried and tested strategy to profit from these markets.

We conducted a live trial of the service for a full year and it performed well, making a clear profit and maintaining a consistent strike rate.

Now it is important to note that the main Goal King is a paid service, although you can get access to free tips as well (the free tips option will come up as you go to exit the page on the Goal King website).

 – Andrew Hughes:– combines a multitude of talents including professional gambling, writing and cricket and regularly provides tips for the betfair betting section. Picked “You’re Special” at 80/1 in the Cheltenham Festival.

Each of the tips comes with a full write-up from the expert providing the tip and the odds advised for it. Betfair clearly look far and wide to find betting talent and it shows in the quality of their content and the tipping pages.

Always worth checking out their opinion before placing your bets for a match.

Things to Avoid with Free Football Tips

We have listed above the best free footy tips we have come across through our extensive research and testing. However, at the same time there are some things to be careful of when looking at free tips and it is worth bearing these in mind if you look around for your own free tips.

 – Always look for a proofed long-term record:– often a tipping site will fail to publish its full results, meaning you can’t tell whether it makes a long term profit or not. Or if it does publish results, those results haven’t been independently verified by another website such as this one. So you don’t know if the results are real or not. You shouldn’t throw your hard-earned cash at following tips if you don’t know for sure that they are good and have an established, verified record.

  – Don’t Fall for Marketing Hype:– some sites will promise to make you rich overnight with pictures of Ferraris, scantily-clad women and tropical islands. It may seem obvious to avoid these sites but they can be surprisingly seductive.

The pictures are usually accompanied with tales of some lucky chap who used to do a normal, boring job before he discovered a betting secret and is now filthy rich, happily enjoying life without having to work. We have looked at dozens of systems and not a single one of these over-hyped types ever works.  Again, stick to a verified long-term record.

– Free tips can be good:- Just because tips are free, it doesn’t mean they aren’t any good. There are lots on the list above that make a good profit. Bear in mind that the tipster may well be making money from other sources such as advertising so doesn’t need to charge a subscription fee for the tips.

– Use a proper betting bank:- One of the biggest mistakes people make is to bet more than they can afford, or not have a large enough bank to withstand the inevitable draw-downs. Make sure that you have a clear plan and record all your results, staking a fixed percentage of your bank on each selection. This will help you to stay on track and not bet erratically.

– Adopt a Long-Term Approach to your betting: – when following tips, it can be tempting to concentrate on very short time periods, like how the tips have done over the last week or so. But all tipsters will have ups and downs, it is part of betting.

Have a look at the record of the tips over a much longer period like six months or a year. Have they made a decent profit over that time period? Does the tipster have an edge over the market? These things are more important than short-term swings.

Growing Your Returns Over Time – The Beauty of Compounding

Albert Einstein once said that compounding was the eighth wonder of the world and he was right – its power is generally greatly underestimated and misunderstood. That applies as much in betting as anything else.

If you take a bank (and as we say above, make sure your bank is big enough to cover losing runs and draw-downs) and double it every year, you might think it wouldn’t grow that dramatically over time. But that is where you would be wrong.

Imagine a £1,000 starting bank that you managed to double every year. In ten years, guess how much you would have?

You wouldn’t have £10,000. No. You wouldn’t even have £100,000, which would be pretty awesome in itself.

No, you would have over a million pounds.

That’s from a starting bank of just £1,000. Pretty incredible stuff.

Now of course there will be difficulties along the way, like your bank may not double every year – some years it may grow more than that, some less and some years your bank may even decrease.

And once you are getting up towards a million, your staking would be getting very high, so you may struggle to get your bets on if they are not in mainstream markets, or you may shirk at putting on a stake of tens of thousands of pounds or more.

But you can see the potential anyway. A service like Banker Bets has managed a very consistent bank growth over a number of years and those who were in from the start and used compound staking have done extremely well.

So if you are following free tips or even paid tips, think about using compound investing and its potential to grow your winnings exponentially.

Summary

There are some great free footy tips out there in amongst the hundreds of tipsters that are out there. Thankfully we have done all the work for you, so you don’t have to spend hours looking around but can use the list we have compiled above.

Make sure you take a careful approach though and avoid the pitfalls of following tips, which can bring you down.

Take a long term approach to your betting and consider the potential of compound investing to grow your winnings.

Finally, please gamble responsibly and only risk what you can afford to lose.

Nube Negra, a Good Bet for Champion Chase this Season

Although the 2021 Queen Mother Champion Chase was lacking two of the biggest stars from the race in Chacun Pour Soi and Altior, it is a contest which may have given us a glimpse into the future in the 2m chasing division.

Put The Kettle On and Nube Negra were involved in an excellent tussle at the finish, with the former coming out on top by less than a length. The runner-up has an excellent chance of reversing that form and going one place better in the Championship race in 2022.

Dan Skelton’s runner is 9/1 in the betting for the feature race on day two of the Cheltenham Festival. After an excellent performance in the Grade Two Shloer Chase at the November Meeting, he is likely to be a one of the popular betting tips for the meeting in March.

Nube Negra is seven years old, so he remains open to improvement over fences. His victory last time out at Cheltenham was just his eighth appearance over fences. He has won four of those races which gives him an impressive 50% strike rate as a chaser.

Skelton has made a very good start to the 2021/22 season which could indicate he is set for his best campaign yet. Nube Negra is the flagship horse in the Lodge Hill yard at the moment. He has some talented novices, but they will have to prove themselves over the next six months.

Sandown Next for Talented Chaser

Nube Negra has an entry in the Group One Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown next month which will be another strong test for the horse. That could see him take on some of the leading horses in the UK and Ireland in the 2m division.

Last season’s Arkle Trophy winner Shishkin has an entry in the Tingle Creek field and is the favourite with the bookmakers. He is unbeaten in five starts over fences, but all those runs have come in novice company. Nicky Henderson’s runner will now feature against much more experienced chasers so he may not have it quite his own way.

Chacun Pour Soi is expected to make the trip from Willie Mullins’ yard to Sandown. The horse finished ahead of Nube Negra in the Champion Chase at the Punchestown Festival last April. That race came at the end of a long hard season for Skelton’s runner. The Irish horse did not run at the Cheltenham Festival, so he was much fresher.

Although the result at Sandown is not the only factor to consider when it comes to the Champion Chase, a victory over Shishkin and Chacun Pour Soi would see Nube Negra even closer to the top of the betting.

The former Spanish-based horse has run at Sandown before. He finished second in the Grade One Henry VIII Novices’ Chase in his novice campaign. Victory on his return to the Esher-based track will be the biggest success of his career so far.

Selection: Nube Negra to win Queen Mother Champion Chase @ 9/1

QF Value Tips – Three Year Update

18th October 2019

Here at HBR our aim is not just to do reviews and then forget about them but continue to monitor services to ensure they continue to perform to a high level over the long term.

So with three years passed since our original review of QF Value Tips (see below), we thought it was more than high time for an update.

QF Value Tips is a sister service to the highly successful and much-acclaimed Quentin Franks Racing, with the tips provided by the very same man. The only difference being that the selections for QF Value Tips are provided the night before racing where as for Quentin Franks Racing they are provided on the morning of racing (besides the occasional ante-post tip).

Given the exceptional quality of the main Quentin Franks service, with over £14,000 profit made to date to just £10 stakes, it was no surprise that QF Value Tips also received a passed rating back in our original review of 2016.

So how has the service performed since then?

We are pleased to say it has performed very well, with a total profit now of over 500 points made – or £5,000 to just £10 stakes.

That’s an additional 230 points profit since our review ended, which is excellent going. Most tipsters we review aren’t even still going three years later, let alone still churning out the profit, so Quentin deserves a lot of praise for that.

The return on investment (ROI) has remained around 20% for the duration of the service which is also a strong effort over such a sustained period.

The strike rate isn’t bad either at over 25% and it’s a very easy service to follow with an average of just one bet per day.

So all in all QF Value Tips is well worthy of its continued PASSED rating and we actually think it deserves a bit of an upgrade from four stars to four and a half stars.

OVERALL VERDICT: PASSED

Very few tipsters stand the test of time and are still going a year after our review of them ends, let alone still churning out the profits three years later. QF Value Tips has managed to do that though, adding another 230 points profit since our original review ended to stand at over 500 points profit made overall.

With his outstanding main service, there is no doubt Quentin Franks is one of the very best tipsters out there and his two services compliment each other very nicely. So if you aren’t a member of both already it is probably time to sign up!

QF Value Tips – Final Review

Our three month trial of QF Value Tips has come to an end and here are the final results:

Profit/loss:    +53 points
Strike Rate:   23%
Bank Growth:   53%

ROI:   21%
Average number of bets:   2 per day
VERDICT:   PASSED
Rating:

You can view full results here.

QF Value Tips – Full Review

QF Value Tips is a spin-off of the very successful horse racing tipster Quentin Franks Racing, which we have reviewed previously and got a rating of 5 stars, an exceptional achievement.

Whilst the main Quentin Franks Racing tips in the morning of racing, QF Value Tips provides selections the evening before racing, looking for value in the early bookies’ prices.

And from the results over our trial, he is rather good at it too!

Making 53 points over the trial was a very decent effort and compliments the main Quentin Franks tips nicely.

Here you can see the profit graph for the trial:

QF Value Tips Profit Graph

Things got off to a slow start but really picked up and grew nicely during the trial.

You do need to back the tips as soon as possible after they are sent out though, at certainly in the evening before racing, as the results at Betfair SP were considerably lower, with just 10 points profit being made during our trial.

However, as long as you can do that, then this is well worth adding to your betting portfolio.

Service Breakdown

Ease of use: QF Value Tips is a fairly easy service to use with just a couple of bets per day, sent out in the evening.

Availability of prices: Prices reduce fairly significantly by the off, which is no doubt due to the fact that they are value prices. So you want to get your bets on as soon as possible after tips are sent out. From our trial it seemed as if there was limited value at Betfair SP.

Strike rate: The strike rate for the trial was 23%, which is reasonable but means a degree of patience will be required when following this service.

Advised Betting Bank: No betting bank was advised, but we used a 100 point bank for the trial, which should be enough to cover losing runs.

Subscription costs: Subscription costs are £1.99 for the first 15 days then £17 per month.

OVERALL VERDICT: PASSED

QF Value Tips is a spin-off from the very successful horse racing tipster Quentin Franks Racing.

Not surprisingly from someone who has achieved such excellent with his main service, Quentin has also delivered excellent returns with QF Value Tips as well.

A profit of 53 points was made over the trial at advised prices, which is decent stuff and is deserving of a recommended rating in our view.

The only thing to note is that if you don’t have any bookie accounts left, this may not be the service for you as results at Betfair SP were quite a bit lower, with only 10 points profit being made.

But other than that, an excellent trial again and QF Value Tips is well worth adding to your betting portfolio!

QF Value Tips – Results Update

11th August 2016

It has been a decent few weeks for QF Value Tips, who have picked up 34 points of profit at advised prices since our last update.

That means they are now 37 points up overall for the trial.

You can view full results here.

At Betfair SP they have added 22 points of profit, bringing them to 2 points up overall.

Good to see Quentin adding more profits to all those gained from his main Quentin Franks Racing service.

Back soon with our final review.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

QF Value Tips – Results Update

18th July 2016

It has continued to be a quiet time for QF Value Tips, with just 4 points of profit added since our last update a month ago.

That means the service is 3 points in profit for the trial as a whole at advised prices.

You can view full results here.

Things have been a little trickier at Betfair SP, with the results being 20 points down at BSP.

That is perhaps not surprising, given that the service is based on taking prices the evening before racing. By the time you get to the off, the value has probably gone.

So let’s hope things get going for QF Value Tips over the last month of the trial.

As an aside, the main Quentin Franks Racing tips have been going great guns, notching an amazing 82 points of profit this month so far, meaning he has now made over 600 points profit since the service started just two years ago.

Impressive stuff indeed.

QF Value Tips – Results Update

18th June 2016

QF Value Tips is the second service from Quentin Franks, one of the very best horse racing tipsters we have come across here at Honest Betting Reviews.

The QF Tips differ from the original Quentin Franks Racing tips by being sent the evening before racing rather than the day of racing.

We are just under a month into our trial and things have been quiet so far, with the tips being just 1 point down to date at advised prices and 14 points down at Betfair SP.

You can view full results here.

Things were helped with a couple of very nice winners at Royal Ascot, in the shape of Defrocked at 12/1 and Primitivo at 8/1.

Let’s hope for more of the same over the rest of the trial – we will report back soon with how things are progressing.

QF Value Tips – New Review

26th May 2016

One of the very best horse racing tipsters we have reviewed so far here at Honest Betting Reviews is Quentin Franks Racing.

In under two years of tipping, Quentin has made over 500 points profit at a return on investment of over 18%.

He has shown remarkable consistency, with 10 of the last 11 months having been profitable.

So when Quentin decided to launch an additional tipping service, we were understandably very interested to see what was on offer.

The additional service is called QF Value Tips and differs from Quentin’s main offering in providing tips the evening before racing rather than the day of racing.

Thus QF Value Tips aim to maximise the value in the early bookmakers’ prices to try and make a profit.

And the news so far is good, with QF Value Tips having made 180 points profit at a return on investment of just under 25% in eight months of tipping.

So it looks like it may well be a very useful additional service to add to the portfolio and top up the monthly profits.

We are interested to see how the prices hold up and will run a normal three month review of QF Value Tips to see how it gets on.

Check back here for regular updates.

In the meantime, you can check out QF Value Tips here.

The Beginners Guide to Horse Racing

Betting on horses is one of the most popular sport outlets when it comes to gambling.

Believe it or not, it actually is not relatively difficult to pick up as a beginner, and that preparation and research that you commit to in the beginning is massively important when it comes to progressing fast and picking up what you need to know and when it comes to understanding all the different types of bets there are in horse racing.

Within this short guide, you will become familiar with the foundation and principles of horse race betting.

Alternatively, if you are more into the casino gambling side, then make sure to head on over to take a look at the Casino Reviews that are available. That should definitely give you a head start in your casino betting, but also some sites do accommodate horse racing betting too, so you could hit two birds with one stone!

Straight Wagers

This form of betting is usually the first genre of betting within horse racing, that punters feel most comfortable in attacking. They come in the form of Win bets, Place bets and finally Show bets.

These bets are available for all types of horse racing, so you could comfortably try these out, the next time big races like The Royal Ascot, Kentucky Derby and Melbourne Cup!

Win Betting

Win betting is of course in the name, meaning you will need the selection you place a bet on to actually win. There is no leeway for this bet to secure you a return. It either has to be right, or you go home with nothing unfortunately. So, this is ultimately the most difficult bet of all three straight wagers.

Winning odds are primarily determined by the form of the horse in question.  On average most people receive a return on this form of betting on every three races. It is often the most exciting betting experience out of all three, and therefore the most popular choice for beginners!

Place Betting

Place betting is the betting type that will require you to select which horse will come in the places. The terminology is a little different between the US and UK.

In the US, place betting typically means your horse needs to finish in the top two for you to receive a return on your bet.

In the UK however, how many places are offered depends on how many horses are in the race and the type of race. As a rule of thumb though, it is normally two places if there are 5-7 runners, three places for 8-15 runners and four places for 16+ runners.

Place betting is easier to get a return from in comparison to a win bet. However, the payoff of this bet is lower for that very reason – for example a quarter or a fifth of the win odds. Therefore, when going into making this bet you will have to pay more to win less, but have a higher chance of achieving a return.

A variation on place betting is each-way betting. This is where you are placing half your stake on a horse to win and half on it to finish in the places.

Show Betting

Show betting is more common in the US than the UK.

A Show Bet means you will need to make sure the horse that you selected finishes in first, second or third place.

Again, just like place betting, because it’s considered an easier option to pick, you will be paid less if you manage to make a winning bet from this scenario – again normally a quarter or a fifth of the win odds.

Exotic Betting

Last but not least, we have the exotic bets. These are far more difficult than straight wagers, that is for sure.

Newcomers to this form of betting will often struggle in getting to grasp the foundations of this, therefore it is not recommended that beginners jump on these right away, before they have adjusted to the principles of straight wagers. You would be running before you can walk essentially.

The easiest of all exotic bets in horse racing is the Exacta bet. This is where you will need to select the first two horses to finish across the line (and in the correct order).

Another alternative exotic bet you could try is the Quinella betting, where you pick the first two horses to finish and it can be in either order.

You could up this then by selecting Double exotic betting, where you will need to predict the right horses for two consecutive races, but definitely build up your try of these exotic bets within the order mentioned above.

Making It Pay in The Premier League

The Premier League is arguably the biggest domestic football league in the world today. Bookmakers have hundreds of markets on every game in the league, while there is a plethora of outright markets available to you.

Having such choice is in your favour as a punter as you may have a strong opinion on how many bookings, corners or goals there will be in the game, rather than the traditional full-time result.

Here are some things to look out for in the 2021/22 campaign.

Newcastle Are Not Too Good to Be Relegated

Newcastle have been in the spotlight recently following their takeover. The future is definitely bright for the northeast club, as they are sure to receive a lot of investment over the next few years.

Unfortunately for Newcastle fans, their current team is really poor. They are 6/5 in the Premier League relegation odds from Betfair and on the evidence of what we have seen from them so far, they may end up in the bottom three.

The January transfer window is obviously the chance for Newcastle to add to their squad, however, it’s unlikely they will be securing any big-name players in that window. Good players will not want to join a team threatened by relegation. The club may have to wait until next summer to land the calibre of players they want.

Michail Antonio Will Keep on Scoring

The competition for the Premier League Golden Boot is very strong this season as Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo returned to the Premier League over the summer. Mo Salah has got off to a fast start and is the leading goalscorer so far in the 2021/22 campaign.

One player who is in the best form of his career and looks the best value in the leading goalscorer market, is Michail Antonio. The West Ham striker has scored six goals in his opening nine games this season.

The Hammers are having another fantastic season under David Moyes. They should be pushing for a European finish once again. Antonio can be backed each way with four places available to you. If he continues at the pace he is going, he should be amongst the leaders at the end of the campaign.

City And Chelsea Locked in Title Bid

This year’s league championship race is going to be one of the closest we have seen in a long time. Last season’s title winners Manchester City, European champions Chelsea, and Liverpool have all got off to a fast start.

What is going to really help City and Chelsea is the depth they have in their squads, particularly around Christmas and February (when the Champions League knockout stages begin). Liverpool have a strong starting XI but if they pick up a few injuries, the quality of their side declines.

It is very hard to split City and Chelsea this season, however, they can be backed in a dual forecast. If they both finish in the top two, you will be paid out as a winner, regardless of the order.

Good luck with your Premier League bets!

Different Types of Betting in Horse Racing

A series of brief explanations to horse racing betting terms to assist the use of betting sites online.

Single

Single bets occur when punters place one bet within a chosen event. In order to get a return, the single bet has to come back successful.

Each Way

Each Way bets are made up of two equal bets. There is a ‘win’ bet where punters make a selection to win a given event and a ‘place’ bet that covers various runner-up positions at reduced odds. The place bet can cover between two and four places.

Accumulators

Accumulator bets require a varying number of selections to win in order to gain a return. ‘Accas’ have boosted odds and multiple selections are combined. All of the chosen selections must be successful in order to gain a return.

Doubles, Trebles, and Larger Accumulators

Doubles are accumulators with two single bets where the odds of each bet are then combined.

Similarly, trebles consist of three selections. Larger accumulators may be referred to as “four-fold”, “five-fold”, “six-fold”, etc. depending on the number of selections.

To see a return, all selections chosen must both be successful

Trixie

Trixies are four bets across three different events in the form of three ‘doubles’ and one ‘treble’. This allows a return if two of three event bets are correct.

Example: Event A, Event B, Event C
Treble: A, B, C
Double: A, B
Double: A, C
Double: B, C

Patent

Patents are seven bets made across three events. These are similar to trixies but involve additional single selections.

Patents require just one selection to be successful to gain a return.

Yankee

A Yankee is eleven bets from four selections. A Yankee bet comprises of a four-fold accumulator, four ‘trebles’, and six ‘doubles’.

Example: Event A, Event B, Event C, Event D
Four-fold: A, B, C, D
Treble: A, B, C
Treble: A, B, D
Treble: A, C, D
Treble: B, C, D
Double: A, B
Double: A, C
Double, A, D
Double: B, C
Double: B, D
Double: C, D

Lucky 15

These are like ‘yankees’ with the addition of single bets. Lucky 15 bets include a ‘four-fold’, four ‘trebles’, six ‘doubles’, and four ‘singles’.

Canadian

A Canadian is 26 bets made up from five selections. Canadian bets include an accumulator, five ‘four-folds’ 10 ‘trebles’ and 10 ‘doubles’. In order to get returns from a Canadian, at least two of the selections must be successful.

Lucky 31

As the name suggests, a Lucky 31 is made up of 31 bets which are then placed on five different selections. A Lucky 31 consists of 10 ‘trebles’, 10 ‘doubles’, 5 ‘singles’, 5 ‘four-folds’ and a ‘five-fold’ accumulator. There are additional bonuses of 15% and 25% if four or five selections win respectively.

Heinz

These bets are comprised of 57 bets made using six selections. A Heinz bet includes 20 ‘trebles’, 15 ‘doubles’, six ‘five-folds’ along with 15 ‘four-folds’, and also a ‘six-fold’ accumulator. In order to gain returns, at least two of the selections must be successful.

Lucky 63

Similar to the Lucky 31, a Lucky 63 involves 63 bets from six different selections. A Lucky 63 consists of 20 ‘trebles’, 10 ‘doubles’, six ‘singles’, with six ‘five-folds’, 15 ‘four-folds, and a ‘six-fold’ accumulator.

Super Heinz

The Super Heinz is 120 bets spread over seven different selections. To secure a return, at least two selections have to come in. This bet has 21 ‘doubles’, 35 ‘trebles’, 35 ‘four-folds’, 21 ‘five-folds’, seven ‘six-folds’, and a ‘seven-fold’ accumulator.

Goliath

The aptly named Goliath is comprised of a massive 247 bets made across 8 selections. A Goliath consists of 70 ‘four-folds’, 56 ‘trebles’, 56 ‘five-folds’, 28 ‘doubles’, 28 ‘six-folds’, eight ‘seven-folds’, and an ‘eight-fold’ accumulator. In order to gain a return from a Goliath, at least two of your selections must be successful.

Straight Forecast

Essentially a ‘forecast’ of the top two finishers will be in the given order.

Reverse Forecast

Reverse Forecasts involve predicting two finishers in a given order.

Combination Forecasts

In Combination Forecasts, punters choose three or more selections to finish in the top two in any order.

Straight Tricasts

The top three must finish in the predicted order to secure a return.

Combination Tricasts

These involve three or more selections to finish in the top three in any order.

Important Features of Sports Betting Apps

Selecting the best gambling apps for you and the gambling experience you seek can sometimes be a tricky choice. However, if you happen to know the features that define a ‘good’ sports betting app, it can certainly help the choices you make further down the line.

The process should most definitely not be rushed, and there are many factors that you should most definitely put into your consideration. Today’s article is about putting all the features you can possibly consider in your selection, up on the table, so when you come to make your choice for which sports betting apps to go for – you will be 100% ready.

There will be many different bookies to choose from that will offer a handful of features for you to enjoy. An example that we looked at was this Unibet review here, it tells you all you need to know about the exciting offers that are available from their own sports betting apps. So, you should certainly pay a visit once you have read and taken notes from this article!

Before you start reading, do take a minute to think about all the important factors that you will be looking for personally to improve your gambling experience, as these too should be personal factors that will influence your decision making for betting applications on the market.

Trustworthy and regulated

This may seem like an obvious feature and something you should not actually be looking for when selecting a betting application, however you would be very surprised to know and see how some betting apps are not regulated in line with the governmental and legal standards.

The first thing you should look out for is the badge or legal logo for the gambling regulation body (i.e. UK Gambling Commission) that your region operates by. It certainly would not be a hard feature to spot, as most betting associations want to put their gambling community at ease from the moment they reach the betting apps landing homepage.

With the interchanging legalities that operate betting apps and sites all over the world, it is ever changing and the best of betting apps will make sure to keep up with the times. These types of betting apps are the only ones you should ever use, period.

In-Play and live betting

This feature is one of the most prominent and loved gambling options for most gamblers today. It allows you to interact and gamble as a live sports match commences in real-time.

While the odds will consistently alter as you play, it is hugely entertaining for some people, and also gives you a chance to interact and watch live sports very easily!

The best betting apps will have a license obtained which allows them to stream live sports matches as they happen, so if this feature is present, you definitely landed yourself a good sports betting app.

Speedy cash outs

This is another super important feature that is often underestimated massively by those looking to select a good betting app. The best betting apps will always engage with the speediest of payout systems, meaning you will be able to receive your winnings fast.

In most cases, speedy payouts at betting apps aim for a withdrawal of funds within 48 hours, yet in most cases it can be much faster than that! That is usually a minimum timespan estimation. Fast payouts are possible, due to the integration of electronic wallets such as PayPal, Neteller and Skrill.

Betting guide resources

Many top betting applications will provide their gambling community with betting guides to aid their journey, in addition to a tipster service. Of course, the tipping service is not available at all betting apps, and if your favourite does not include this (not to worry), as it is a plus feature.

However, the guide resources are often a must, as many beginners who start gambling will have no idea what to do, so the betting platform would help those get on their feet as fast as possible, by providing these guides.

Maybe you are not one to need betting guides, so this feature is not important at all to you, nevertheless if you see it, you know the betting app has gone out there to provide you the nice attention-to-detail features you would want to expect for a great experience over all!

Sports league coverage

This is an obvious requirement-a large variety of sports event coverage. Having different sports to pick from is very important, as it means you can explore all your favourite niches, as well as the betting app reaching as many potential customers as possible.

It is not usual for betting apps to cater to just one sport, as it limits their customer base, but it can still sometimes happen in the market today. There is no harm to having more than one betting app account, yet for efficiency’s sake, it does help to have one platform that you can access absolutely every sport you can think of! Some of the most popular sports markets include NFL, EPL, NBA and more.

User experience

Last but not least, a betting app should have taken into account an efficient user experience layout for its entire application. Usually a simple format is the best way to go, with appealing aesthetics. Nowadays, the huge betting apps will employ large UX/UI technical updates, to ensure they keep up with the market and competition today.

Staying relevant and on the frontline of ensuring that every aspect of gambling experience is addressed, is super important. It makes the gambling experience easier to navigate for the user, but also the reputation of the gambling app even more supreme.
